Publicado en Par�s entre los a�os 1901 y 1910 bajo la direcci�n de Pierre Viala (1859-1936), Inspector general de Viticultura, profesor del Instituto Nacional de Agronom�a, miembro de la Soci�t� Nacional d Agricultura y Doctor en ciencias naturales. En dicha publicaci�n colaboraron Victor Vermoral(1848-1927)como secretario general, junto con 85 colaboradores editoriales m�s, entre ellos A. Barbier, A. Berget, P. Besson, D. Bethmont, y A. Bouchard entre otros; y tambi�n los pintores Alexis Kreyder, Jules Troncy, Henry Gillet y J.B. Drouot. En la obra completa se incluyen 3.200 p�ginas, 500 l�minas en color, 70 l�minas en negro y 840 impresiones en negro.Se describen 5,200 variedades de uva y enumeran una lista de 24,000 nombres.
