In 1902, women's fashion underwent a significant transformation as the Edwardian era ushered in a departure from the elaborate styles of the late 19th century. The prevailing silhouette embraced the S-curve, featuring a defined waist, flared hips, and a pronounced bust?a departure from the previous era's corseted hourglass figure. The influence of the Gibson Girl style, popularized by Charles Dana Gibson's illustrations, was evident in the sporty yet elegant look characterized by high collars, blouses, and tailored suits. Gigot sleeves, voluminous at the shoulders and tapering down, created a distinctive puff, while skirts became narrower, departing from the fuller styles of the previous decades. The fashion landscape featured a blend of modesty and sophistication, with high collars, lace, and delicate fabrics dominating dresses. Accessories played a pivotal role, with large, elaborate hats, long gloves, and parasols completing the ensemble. The era marked a transition to Art Nouveau influences, incorporating flowing lines and nature-inspired motifs. Overall, 1902 women's fashion reflected an evolving sense of elegance and a departure from the Victorian extravagance of earlier decades. Approximate Image Size: 7 1/2 ins x 5 1/2 ins.
