From medicine to underwater survival aboard a nuclear submarine, from the terrorism of piracy in the South China Sea to survival against the medical forces of nature, Roger C. Dunham has crafted a series of intriguing books defining the ultimate in human challenge: SURVIVAL.
Roger C. Dunham was born in Pasadena, California, and following a brief and unremarkable journey through one year of junior college, he joined the United States Navy. After three years of intense training in electronics, nuclear power school, nuclear reactor prototype training, and submarine school, he served as a reactor operator aboard a spy submarine in the Pacific Ocean for another three years. During that time, the experiences created the foundation for his book SPY SUB, published by the Naval Institute Press. Because of the highly classified nature of the story, the Pentagon worked closely to ensure no secrets relating to the finding of a Soviet Submarine in the western Pacific Ocean were ever revealed to the public. After marrying Keiko while still in the Navy, he received his honorable discharge and began studying premedical courses leading to acceptance at the UCLA School of Medicine where he where he was awarded his MD degree. His intern year at USC-LAC Medical Center in Los Angeles started with his first month on the Jail Ward caring for dangerous wounded and sick prisoners, the experiences of which created the basis for his second book, FINAL DIAGNOSIS. His third book, SURVIVING MORTALITY is being released in January, 2018. A fourth book, Rogue Captain, is a fictional submarine thriller and love story between a father and his daughter. This story was released for publication in 2018, including a hard bound edition, soft cover, and electronic reader versions to a national and international audience. His most recent book, The Rape of Hippocrates, examines the current state of medical care in the United States and the personal effects of declining Hippocratic morality and ethics. Based on his experiences after forty years of practicing medicine, Dr. Dunham defines a pathway that allows for a return of primary medical care following the ethical standards previously emblematic of American medicine.
Dr. Dunham and Keiko have raised a son and a daughter and he has practiced Primary Care Internal Medicine in Santa Barbara, California.
