Jane G. Haigh

I am an author and historian, with nine published books on Alaska History, five still in print, including Gold Rush Women, a best seller in Alaska for the last twenty years, and Searching for Fannie Quigley, published by the University of Ohio. Prior to my history career, I studied Architecture at the University of Oregon, where I pursued my interest in planning and renewable energy. I had a short career designing energy efficient homes, and designed and built a super insulated passive solar house for my family in Fairbanks before the bottom fell out of the housing market, oil sank to $10 a barrel and no one was interested in saving energy. I switched to a career in history, and earned a PhD in US History from the University of Arizona in Tucson. As a long-time proponent of renewable energy, and now the Green New Deal, I thought a novel would be a fun way to explore and promote Green New Deal ideas
