Toby Speed is a poet and the author of numerous children’s books and one murder mystery for adults. BRAVE POTATOES was on The New York Times and Publishers Weekly children’s bestseller lists, and TWO COOL COWS was an American Bookseller Pick of the List and won an IRA-CBC Children’s Choice award.
Her murder mystery, DEATH OVER EASY, featuring aviator sleuth Emma Trace, was published by Five Star Publishing. Toby's poems have appeared in Boulevard, The Rotary Dial, Light, Lighten Up Online, Highlights for Children, Silver Birch Press, and The 5-2: Crime Poetry Weekly. Her short story “At the Corner of Night and Nowhere” appears in the anthology MOON SHOT: MURDER AND MAYHEM ON THE EDGE OF SPACE. The book is a collection of 14 stories that bridge the genres of mystery and science fiction.
Toby’s day job for many years was writing student recruitment materials for Stony Brook University. A native Long Islander, she now lives in Chapel Hill, NC, with her cat Willow. She is at work on a novel for middle-graders.
