Steven Connor

Steven Connor was born in 1955, and brought up in Bognor Regis, Sussex. He was at school at Christ's Hospital, Horsham and studied for a BA and DPhil in English at Wadham College, Oxford, from 1973 onwards, submitting his DPhil thesis, 'Prose Fantasy and Myth Criticism 1880-1900' in 1980. He took up the post of Lecturer in English at Birkbeck College, London, where he became Professor Modern Literature and Theory in 1994. He was also Academic Director of the London Consortium Graduate School in Humanities and Cultural Studies from 2003-2012. From 2012 to 2022, he was Grace Professor of English and Director of the Centre for Research in Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (CRASSH) in the University of Cambridge. He moved to King's College, London, to become Director of Research in the Digital Futures Institute, in Jamuary 2023.
