Mary Troy

Mary Troy has had six books of fiction published by university presses and small presses with high reputations. Her books are two novels--BEAUTIES and SWIMMING ON HWY N--and four collections of short stories--IN THE SKY LORD, COOKIE LILY, THE ALIBI CAFE and other stories, and JOE BAKER IS DEAD. She has won a Nelson Algren award, the John Gould Fletcher Award, the USA Book Award for literary fiction, and the Devil's Kitchen Reading Award for best book of prose in 2004. She was a runner-up for the Forewords Book of the Year award and the William Rockhill Nelson Award. She has been reviewed well and widely, including the Bloomsbury review, The Chicago Tribune, and the New York Times. She has published 60 or so stories and essays. For many years she taught fiction writing for the University of Missouri- St. Louis. She has won the MO governor's award for excellence in teaching, and the University system award for Leadership.
