Bill Endert was born and raised in Haarlem, Holland where he worked in a sawmill after completing high school until being drafted into the Dutch Air Force. After two years in the service Bill was compelled to see the world , and set out on ocean going vessels transporting lumber from Sweden and Finland.
Having a taste of the forest,Bill enrolled in a 3 year forestry course awakening a longing to work in the woods.
A picture in one of his lessons gave him the direction he sought. It depicted two men riding horseback through a stand of Sitka Spruce on the Queen Charlotte Islands in British Columbia, Canada.
Bill landed in Vancouver on July 2nd, 1960 with a recommendation to work in a sawmill on False Creek, however the day he arrived the mill burned down.
That turn of events changed Bill's destiny and took him into the world of the Timbercruiser.
This is the story of Ed van Zeeland telling his side of life in the woods.
