Born in Washington, D.C. I grew up in Southern California and attended Stanford University undergraduate and law school at the University of California Berkley. I was in the Peace Corps in Venezuela and then served in the Air Force, attaining the rank of Captain. I left the Air Force to get a Masters in Taxation at New York University. From there I moved to Florida and practiced law with several firms, including Holland & Knight, and my own firm, before joining GrayRobinson, where I am a partner. For the past 30 years, I have specialized in employee benefits and ERISA.
I have also authored or co-authored two books published by the Westlaw Division of Thomson Reuters (both updated annually) one on retirement plans and one on employee welfare benefit plans, including health plans.
I have been listed in Best Lawyers in America since 1990 and have been a member of the national honorary organization for benefits lawyers, American College of Employee Benefits Counsel, since 2004. Over that time I have spoken on numerous occasions on employee benefits matters mainly at meetings of other professionals, but also to the general public.
