John Brigham

John Brigham was born in San Francisco in 1945. He attended the University of California, Berkeley, graduating in 1967. He received an MA from the University of Wisconsin and a PhD from UCSB where he studied with C. Herman Pritchett. He teaches at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and lives in Holyoke, Mass and Bridgeport, Connecticut. His work examines the meaning of law in culture and society, including social movements, materiality and aesthetics. He is a member of the Law and Society Association and the International Roundtable for the Semiotics of law and a frequent visitor to the International Institute for the Sociology of Law in Oñati, Spain.
