DAVID BOROFKA’S first collection of stories, Hints of His Mortality, was selected by Oscar Hijuelos as winner of the 1996 Iowa Award for short fiction. His novel, The Island, was published by MacMurray & Beck. His second collection, A Longing for Impossible Things, was released in spring 2022 as part of Johns Hopkins Poetry and Fiction Series and was awarded an American Fiction Award in the short story by American Book Fest; one of the stories in the collection ("Attachments for the Platonically Inclined") is included in Coolest American Stories 2023. A new novel, The End of Good Intentions was published in 2023 by Fomite Press, and a new collection of stories, The Bliss of Your Attention, was published in 2025, again by Johns Hopkins UP.
