Deborah Dwork

Debórah Dwork is one of the world's leading historians of the Holocaust. She directs the Center for the Study of the Holocaust, Genocide, and Crimes Against Humanity at the Graduate Center, City University of New York, and her work has earned some of the field's highest honors: the International Network of Genocide Scholars Lifetime Achievement Award (2020), the Annetje Fels-Kupferschmidt Award from the Dutch Auschwitz Committee (2022), and the Distinguished Achievement Award in Holocaust Studies from the Holocaust Educational Foundation (2024).

Her most recent book, Saints and Liars, a finalist for the National Jewish Book Award in Nonfiction, follows the American relief and rescue workers who risked everything across Prague, Vilna, Shanghai, Marseille, and Lisbon long before the United States entered World War II.
