About Gloria Powell

I was born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. I moved to nearby Leominster in my teens. In 1987 my family moved to Maine. I received my Masters degree in Speech Communication Disorders in 1996 from the University of Maine in Orono. I’ve been a speech language pathologist for over 20 years working primarily with students pre-k to high school age in homes, schools, and offices in the central Maine area. Writing has always been a part of life, inspiration coming from my family, pets, students, nature, local events, and worthwhile causes such as breast cancer awareness.

I enjoy reading, walking in the woods with my dogs, biking, swimming, yoga, and scrabble.

My husband Maurice and I have four talented children and 8 beloved grandchildren 5 adopted from China. We sponsor a young lady from Uganda, Kasine who is dear to our hearts as well.

I have written in many venues but primarily for publication in newspapers throughout Maine. My informative and inspirational articles have appeared in the Bangor Daily News, The Waterville Sentinel, the Maine Eagle Magazine, The Town Line, The Republican Journal (Belfast), and others too numerous to mention. I am a member of the Maine Fellowship of Christian Writers and have presented workshops at their conferences and monthly meetings over the years. I am currently starting a writers' group at the Newport Cultural Center to begin September 14, 2019. My home is in Palmyra, Maine where I live with my husband Maurice, two dogs, and three cats. A Closer Walk is my first book available in both hard cover and through Kindle. My second book See Your Calling: Discover God's Plan for Your Life will be available soon. It is a journal, self-study or an ideal book to use during a weekly Bible study with ready questions for the participants. These two books are set up like a perpetual calendar so that each day a short inspirational reading is available especially if your time is limited. Ideal for gift-giving they can be read through each year, along with your daily Bible reading to give hope and inspiration.
