Christopher Marsh

Christopher Marsh (né Surosky) is a professor of international security studies at National Defense University's Joint Special Operations Master of Arts (JSOMA) program at Fort Bragg, where he teaches and conducts research on Russian and Chinese approaches to special operations and irregular warfare, including military strategy and foreign policy. He is currently writing a book on Russian special warfare and the grey zone.

Prior to joining JSOMA, Dr. Marsh was director of strategic research and analysis at the Joint Special Operations University (JSOU) at the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) in Tampa, FL. Prior to that he was a professor at the US Army School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS), Fort Leavenworth, KS. Before joining the faculty at SAMS, Marsh was a senior intelligence and operations analyst at the US Air Force Special Operations School, Hurlburt Field, Florida, where he taught European Affairs, counter-terrorism, and counter-insurgency warfare. Earlier he had served with the Army's Human Terrain System. Between 1999-2011, Dr. Marsh was a professor of political science at Baylor University, where he held numerous appointments, including director of the J.M. Dawson Institute of Church-State Studies, director of the Keston Center for Religion, Politics, & Society, and director of the MA program in international relations.

Dr. Marsh's research and teaching interests focus on irregular warfare, particularly in post-communist societies. His most recent book is Russian Foreign Policy (co-authored with Nikolas Gvosdev of the US Naval War College). He is currently writing a book on Russia's Special Way of War: Special Operations, Irregular Warfare, and the Grey Zone.
