A friend of the Rockefellers, Kennedys, Hearsts and Harrimans, Bert Morgan (1904-1986) was the photographer of choice for American high society, from the 1930's to the 1980's. By promising never to publish an unflattering picture, he gained unlimited access to this rarefied post-gilded-age world, which he followed seasonally from New York and Long Island to Palm Beach, Newport, Saratoga, and the other society havens. His work was regularly published in Vogue, The Social Spectator, Vanity Fair, and Town & Country. The Bert Morgan Archive contains more than 500,000 negatives taken by Bert Morgan and his son Richard at parties, openings, charity balls, sporting events, home sittings, weddings and other functions attended by the rich and famous, including several generations of America's most prominent families, European royalty and stars of the stage and screen.
