Peter R. Demant

I’m an observer of international relations, a historian of Middle Eastern and Islamic affairs, and a citizen of the world interested in conflict and coexistence between civilizations. I’ve taught at Amsterdam University, been a researcher at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, project director at a joint Israeli-Palestinian think tank, and professor of International Relations at São Paulo University.

Years of travel, working with and living among people of different cultures and faiths, plus my own personal background, all nourished my outlook. I learnt how violence, resentment and distrust drive us apart: hatred corrodes the fabric of lives. Yet compassion, friendship, and dialogue can alleviate pain and bridge chasms. That’s true of Jews and Arabs, but no less of Muslims and Westerners worldwide! Turning my life experience and insights into fictional form may be the straightest path to hearts and minds. I hope you enjoy reading GOD’S ARMY as much as I enjoyed writing it.
