Tracy Dunham

Author, lawyer, and mom, I have written in just about every genre. Although I grew up all over the world, I now reside in the U.S.

My dad was career army, so our little family traipsed to Japan when I was in the third grade. I hated leaving my class just before Christmas and remember being violently sick on the troop ship that sailed the Pacific with us on board. Days and days of being seasick. Have never forgotten it, and every now and then, wonder how I'd fare on a long voyage. On the up side, I learned some Japanese in school, words and phrases that come back to me today in the oddest moments.

After that, we had a long stretch stateside while my dad taught at the Command and General Staff College in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. There, we lived in the house, 6 Sumner Place, once occupied by George Armstrong Custer and his wife, Libbie. My mom even found a picture of them on our front porch. I read Libbie Custer's book, everything I could about the history of the post, and rode my horse through the ruts still visible in the dirt, ruts cut by wagons heading farther West.

A short stint in Monterey, California followed, then it was Turkey for my high school years. Ankara, to be exact. I went from fascination with the westward expansion of America to Greek amphitheaters and the seven church of Asia Minor, all of which we saw. Eastern Turkey then was found by following Roman roads that still existed, camping in Kurdish villages, and riding horses to get to places like Nemrut Dag (Dag=mountain). A single year at the American University of Beirut ended my education in the Middle East, as things began blowing up. Literally. Including the University's Registrar's Office. Turned up at Hollins College, with the school accepting my grades as I stated them - honestly, I may add. Thought I was being exiled in Purgatory. Then I discovered smart women, a stellar set of professors, fascinating classes, and people like Richard Dillard who gave me the starting blocks that resulted in a writing life. I am to this day very grateful.

Check out my westerns, mysteries, romances, young adult books, and short story collections. I hope you find something you like.
