Bob Gibbons

Born in Britain, Bob's overland adventures began in a 1949 Land Rover, which he drove from England to Kathmandu way back in 1974, before he even thought about settling down into a 'proper job' like writing guidebooks! He then worked as an overland driver, driving all over Asia, Africa and South America in trucks as well as decrepit old buses in India and Nepal.

In 1983 he met Siān in Kashmir; since then they've been leading and organising treks in the Alps, Nepal, Algeria and Niger. They have hitched across Tibet, driven their overland bus with ageing clients to Nepal, explored the Sahara and driven through Africa six times in their 1983-vintage Land Rover. During 2011 they revisited Tibet, this time driving the same old Land Rover back from Kathmandu to the UK via Lhasa, through China, Kazakhstan and Russia.

In Kathmandu they now work with Himalayan Map House, and for many winters worked with Pilgrims Book House. They have produced several trekking and travel guides for Bradt and Cicerone. Some of this was real work, but luckily that 'proper job' has not yet materialised!
