Phil Harris

Phil Harris, is Professor Emeritus in Marketing & Public Affairs at the University of Chester, Professor Extraordinarius at the University of South Africa (UNISA), Pretoria, RSA and a Fellow of the Good Governance Institute, London.

Prior to becoming an academic he held positions in the media, international chemical and foods industries & been a board member of the American Marketing Association, Academy of Marketing, and the Australian and New Zealand Marketing Academy. He has advised governments on Medium Sized Businesses and Small Business and helped found in the UK the Educate North Awards in 2015 and University Enterprise Challenge in 2016 and has focused on developing high quality entrepreneurs regionally and internationally both in the not for profit, private and public sectors. He is a member of several boards and charity trust governing bodies and has researched, taught and worked in Australia, Canada, China, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Singapore Sri Lanka, Turkey, United States & across Europe.

He is regarded as one of the founders of research and theory development in strategic public affairs management, political marketing, and societal communication.

Phil is Editor in Chief of the transnational Palgrave Encyclopedia on Interest Groups, Lobbying and Public Affairs (Harris, Bitonti, Fleisher and Skorkjaer Binderkrantz, 2022).

His current focus is on China and Indian business development, enablement of the vulnerable and with entrepreneurship, family business, international trade, and doctoral student development. He has supervised or examined over 40 doctoral students to completion during his career. He is regularly called upon to advise and comment on China, Entrepreneurialism, Governance, International Business & Trade, Machiavelli, Public Affairs, Public Health Policy and Transparency.

He is joint founding editor of the Journal of Public Affairs and a member of several international editorial and advisory boards and has written or published over 200 articles and papers and 20 books and is a regular media commentator. At a community level he has conducted and published research on Countering Child Crime (Joy riding), Enablement of the visually and hearing impaired, Mental Health Care and its Management and the development of female entrepreneurs.
