Julia H. Cothron

Because of the inquiry techniques used by her ninth grade science teacher, Julia Cothron became a science educator. Subsequently, she taught hundreds of teachers successful strategies for incorporating scientific research into all classrooms and supported students engaged in independent research projects. For her work, she has been recognized by the Virginia Science Teachers Association and the Educational Press Association of America. Although the "high stakes testing movement" has negatively impacted student research, Dr. Cothron looks forward to a resurgence of interest as the Next Generation Science Standards and Framework are implemented. Currently, she is reviewing her materials for revisions related to these standards.
