Jack Brubaker

Jack Brubaker's seventh book, "Sons of East Tennessee: Civil War Veterans Divided and Reconciled'' (McFarland & Co., 2022), focuses on two Civil War veterans who fought on opposing sides. They met for the first time at their sons' joint burial service in Knoxville National Cemetery following their deaths in the Spanish-American War. East Tennessee's and the nation's reconciliation narrative of the late 19th century frames their story.

Penn State Press published "Down the Susquehanna to the Chesapeake'' in 2002. The History Press published "Massacre of the Conestogas'' and "Remembering Lancaster County'' in 2010. Brubaker has addressed more than 200 groups in five states on a variety of historical subjects and has written magazine articles for American Heritage, Civil War Times, Pennsylvania Heritage and the Journal of Lancaster County's Historical Society.

The author wrote The Scribbler, an LNP (Lancaster, Pa.) newspaper column exploring the history and culture of Lancaster County, from 1979 to 2025. He also was an investigative reporter for LNP

Brubaker is at work on a book about growing up on a Lancaster County farm where three generations of his family ran an Underground Railroad station. A subsequent owner demolished the station house in 1986, but the stories of freedom seekers gaining shelter on the Gibbons/Brubaker family farm remain.

He lives in western Lancaster County with his wife, Christine Conant Brubaker, a local conservationist.
