Cathy Scott is a Los Angeles Times and New York Times bestselling author and an award-winning investigative journalist. Ann Rule described Scott as a star writer in the crowded field of true crime, a reputation cemented by her partnership with WildBlue Press to release separate, entirely new books focusing on Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls.

Cathy Scott's biography of Ann Rule, First Lady of Murder, released by WildBlue Press, highlights the life and legacy of the woman called the Queen of True Crime. Scott got to know Rule three years before her death in 2015 and stayed in touch to write an in-depth study of her life. The biography explores how Rule, who authored 33 books, became a legendary figure in the genre.

Scott has authored several other notable titles, including The Millionaire's Wife (St. Martin's Press, 2012), which details the 1990 contract murder of George Kogan on an Upper East Side Manhattan street. Her 2014 updated release of Murder of a Mafia Daughter covers the slaying of writer Susan Berman at the hands of Robert Durst and earned second place for Best True Crime Book by ForeWord Reviews. She also co-wrote Freeway Rick Ross: The Untold Autobiography, which launched to a standing-room audience in Los Angeles and was a ForeWord Reviews true crime finalist. This upcoming work focuses on two teenage girls murdered six years apart on southern California's Torrey Pines State Beach under eerily similar circumstances: fifteen-year-old Barbara Nantais in 1978 and fourteen-year-old Claire Hough in 1984. While DNA testing eventually linked Hough's murder to two deceased men, former police employee Kevin Brown and Ronald Tatro, the Barbara Nantais case remains open. Scott pursues the evidence, interviews police, neighbors, friends, and family, and profiles all three suspects, including an initial person of interest who was never pursued.
