Alan Venable

I've been writing published children's books since 1973, beginning with THE CHECKER PLAYERS, a picture book with "intelligence and humor...it has that rare substance" (New York Times Book Review). In 2008 OneMonkeyBooks.com published my fairytale novella, TAKE ME WITH YOU WHEN YOU GO, 'a great bedtime story for the older child' (ForeWord Magazine) and 'a winner for young readers, or for group audiences' (Juneau Public Library) and two books about the inimitable peanutrician, Dr. Peanut. Most recently: RATTING ON RUSSO (a novel); HOPE'S KIDS, the history of a 1965 voting rights project in South Carolina; and THE PUMPKIN DEAL, a middle elementary Halloween picture book about how readers of any age can negotiate a "win-win" deal.
