I'm an English naturalist. A biophile. Since my earliest memories, I've been obsessed with the natural world in all it's many forms and incredible productions. It has always been my hobby and since 1993 it's also my livelihood. My work is nearly as diverse as the subjects I study but the communication of my love and science has been the main focus. I am a broadcaster in the widest sense - filming, presenting, photographing, writing, guiding and recording natural history. I have worked on projects for the BBC, National Geographic, Discovery, Animal Planet and Smithsonian. I also work as a field biologist and as an informal immersive teacher of all things nature, although I have a special place reserved for insects and their kin.
My job, as I see it is to share the world through my eyes. To reconnect and revitalise our relationship with nature. I have written 12 books on the subject and am currently working on number 13! I have travelled extensively, but I call home Dartmoor National Park - I share my life with a very tolerant wife and daughter and a menagerie of creatures from Pythons to Cockroaches. I love bikes and cycling, Blues music. I play harmonica, sing and I'm currently learning Banjo.
