Roy I. Brown

Roy Brown is a psychologist who has carried out teaching, research and practice in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities. Roy believes in the application of quality of life at the cutting edge of practice.

In the recent book Quality of Life and Intellectual Disability: knowledge application to other Social and Educational challenges with co- editor Rhonda Faragher he has been concerned with the application of quality of life and wellbeing to other disadvantaged people and their families. This book has chapters from well-known authors from many countries including the USA, Canada, Australia, and Nederland.

Roy has directed support and intervention programs in the UK, Canada and Australia. He has many years experience designing and developing research and professional education as well as degree programs in universities. Currently Professor Emeritus at the University of Calgary, Canada, and Flinders University, Australia, he holds an Adjunct Professorship at the University of Victoria, Canada. He was director of the longest Quality of life research project in Canada funded by Health and Welfare Canada. More recently he has been heavily involved in family quality of life research and application and has written extensively on the impact and needs of families, including older families where there is a person with a developmental disability. He has recently returned from Mexico City running workshops and has also lectured in Seattle and run workshops in Vancouver, Canada as well as chairing roundtables on service delivery for older people with disabilities. He is internationally recognized having been the Founding Director of an academy (See IASSIDD), which provides workshops around the world including Russia, China Singapore as well as several European countries in addition to those mentioned above.
