George Avgerakis was born in Trenton, New Jersey and educated in the public school system of Ewing Township. As an undergraduate at the University of Maryland, he taught film making under the guidance of fine artist/educator, Henry Niese. Upon graduation, Mr. Avgerakis attended the London Film School, where he studied under film director, Mike Leigh.
Mr. Avgerakis began his professional career in London, as a post-production scriptwriter, later moving to Princeton, New Jersey where he worked as a freelance film editor and director. After a brief engagements as an art director, TV commercial producer, and corporate video manager, he co-founded Avekta Productions in 1982, establishing a studio in midtown Manhattan, for which he serves as V.P. Creative Director to this day.
Concerning awards, Mr. Avgerakis prefers to count the profits and public impressions he creates for such clients as Time Warner, Ferrari, JVC, Conoco, Forbes, Brink's, HP, Pfizer, Microsoft and The American Museum of Natural History as the only awards worth noting. He also produced the first co-production between a corporation and the Public Broadcasting Network, and the first infomercial for Russian TV after the fall of the Soviet empire.
Mr. Avgerakis began writing professionally at the age of 16 by interviewing music celebrities for local Trenton, N.J. newspapers, including Ray Charles, The Beach Boys, and Peter, Paul and Mary. As Contributing Editor to Videography and Digital Cinema magazines Mr. Avgerakis published an average of 5,000 words monthly and frequently contributed to HDVideo Pro, Creative Cow and New Media. He as authored three books to date, all available on Amazon.com.
Mr. Avgerakis' avocations include SCUBA, sailing, real estate development and Ferrari restoration. He frequently writes for Forza, The Magazine about Ferrari and as lectured at festivals and seminars around the world, including the National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas, were Mr. Avgerakis was Chair of the Business Track.
