David Penchansky

Penchansky, a professor at the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota, specializes in the fringe areas of biblical studies. His first book focuses on the Book of Job. Called _Betrayal of God_, it argues that when Job accuses God of treating him unfairly, he shows integrity. His subsequent books explore the edges of theology: _What Rough Beast_ explores the biblical passages which depict God as a destructive demon; _Twilight of the Gods_ suggests that most of the Hebrew Bible retains significant elements of polytheism. His most recent book, _Understanding Wisdom Literature_ is an introduction of the part of the Bible most different from the rest. Currently, he is writing a book about the Qur'an. He is married to Hend Al-Mansour, Saudi Arabian artist.
