A long time ago my mom gave me a camera. My dad took our family on vacations each summer to beautiful and natural places in the American West. My experiences with photography and travel became major interests in my life.
Over the years other interests included mountaineering, ski touring, cycling and exploring the backroads of California. I directed a travel and photography program for the University of Southern California, taught nature photography for the UCLA extension program, and conducted photography tours on behalf of Yosemite, the Los Angeles Zoo, and natural history museums. I conduct tours for my own company, Image Quest Photography. I also married and helped raise a family. I took my own kids on many of my trips and I created a job for myself to take groups of families on camping trips throughout Southern California.
I turned those interests and experiences into articles that have appeared in publications that have included Outdoor Photography, Outside, Sierra, Cross-Country Ski, Sky and Telescope, Westways, etc.
I'm also the author of four pictorial guidebooks and one instructional book, my latest, about nature photography.
When I'm not conducting a photography tour, completing an assignment, or sharing my images on the Web, I'm likely to be found riding my bike, hiking up a mountain, driving along a forgotten road, contemplating a sunrises or sunset, and spending time with friends and people I love, always with a camera close at hand.
