David P. Mindell

David P. Mindell is an evolutionary biologist and senior researcher at the University of California at Berkeley, Museum of Vertebrate Zoology. He is a former Professor at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Director of the University of Michigan Museum of Zoology, and Dean of Science at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. He has published broadly on evolution of birds, with particular focus on the systematics and conservation of raptors. He is past-President of the Society of Systematic Biologists, and has written popular science books The Evolving World: Evolution in Everyday Life, which won the Independent Publishers Gold Medal in Science, and The Network of Life: A New View of Evolution forthcoming from Princeton University Press in 2024.
