Koenraad Kuiper

My family is from Rotterdam from where they emigrated in 1951 to New Zealand living first in Auckland and then in Wellington.

I was educated at Westlake High School and Victoria University of Wellington from where I graduated with an MA with Honours in English. From 1969 - 1972 I studied at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia, graduating with a PhD in linguistics. I hold a DSc and the University Teaching Medal from the University of Canterbury where I am Professor Emeritus. I also commute from Sydney where I am an Honorary Professor at the University of Sydney

I've published four books of poetry and seven academic texts and monographs as well as articles, book chapters and reviews. I am on the editorial boards of three academic journals and the inaugural Managing Editor of the _Yearbook of Phraseology_.

I have been fortunate to have held two Fulbright Fellowships in the USA and been a Fellow of the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

I play the euphonium (not well), enjoy gardening and chamber music, and being in other places (but not too other).
