In ten years as a newspaper and magazine journalist, Deckle McLean wrote many news and magazine pieces on subjects ranging from government and politics to law and education to arts and popular culture. During thirty-plus years as a journalism professor, he produced many academic articles and several books on subjects related to mass communications law. Also, he has written several mystery novels. Making Do was published in 2011. A Long Winter, published in 2012, received honorable mention in the 2012 Southern California Book Festival. Roberto Ten's Last Job was first published in 2009 and republished in 2013.
McLean was raised in New Jersey. He received a college degree from Harvard and a law degree from Boston College Law School. He now lives in downstate Illinois. He has a website, ldmclean.com.
