John T. Wertime

Born in 1941, John Wertime holds degrees from Haverford College and Princeton University. He lived in Iran for nine years and speaks fluent Persian. He is an internationally known authority on Near Eastern and Central Asian nomadic textiles, and a contributing editor to HALI magazine. In 1993, he received the Joseph V. McMullan Award for Scholarship and Stewardship in Islamic Textiles. Since 1975, he has written extensively on many facets of textile structure, art, and history. His publications also deal with Persian metalwork. He has curated exhibitions in Tehran and at the Textile Museum in Washington, DC.
