Tony Kashani holds a Ph.D. in Humanities from CIIS, a Master's Degree in Cinema Studies from San Francisco State University and a Bachelor's in Media Studies from San Francisco State University. He is professor of Humanities at Kaplan University, Adjunct faculty at Union University's PhD program in Interdisciplinary Studies. He is a scholar member of GSA (Global Studies Association) and a contributing member of ACME (Action Coalition for Media Education). Aside from many scholarly articles, Dr. Kashani is the author of two editions of Deconstructing the Mystique: An Interdisciplinary Introduction to Cinema, a textbook used at various universities in the US and has recently completed his latest book manuscript, Cinema for Social Change: The Logic and Politics of Cinema in the Planetary Age (to be published by Edwin Mellen Press). He is the co-editor of Hollywood's Exploited (Palgrave MacMillan Press)Presently, he is working on a book manuscript on media ethics.
Dr. Kashani has collaborated with the world renowned philosopher of pedagogy Henry A. Giroux, and the long time Native American feminist scholar/activist Annette Jaimes-Guerrero in projects regarding media pedagogy and representation of Native American women in the media.
A trilingual cosmopolitan thinker and an accomplished athlete, Tony is committed to achieving a balance within the "mind-body-spirit" complex. He lives with his family in San Francisco.
