Phylis Johnson, Ph.D., is Professor and Director of Journalism & Mass Communications at San Jose State University. She is Professor Emeritus of Sound and New Media at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. She is originally from New York, and has professionally worked in broadcasting in Houston, Philadelphia, and an assortment of cities throughout her career. Dr. Johnson is the co-founder and co-editor of Resonance: Journal of Sound and Culture, and previously an editor of the Journal of Radio and Audio Media (JRAM), and Soundscape: The Journal of Acoustic Ecology. She is also VR & Arts Reviews Editor of the Journal of Gaming and Virtual Worlds (Intellect Press). She presents internationally, and publishes and presents mainly in academic venues.
