Scott Fowler

Scott Fowler is an author as well as a national award-winning sports columnist for The Charlotte Observer, the largest newspaper in the Carolinas. He has written for the Observer and its website since 1994.

Scott's latest book was recently released and co-authored with visual journalist Jeff Siner. Called "Sports Legends of the Carolinas,” it is a coffee-table book filled with more than 100 photographs and exclusive interviews with 33 sports icons like Steph Curry, Roy Williams, Mike Krzyzewski, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Dawn Staley.

In 2018, Scott hosted the eight-part podcast "Carruth," which recounted the story of former Carolina Panthers wide receiver Rae Carruth and his pregnant girlfriend, the late Cherica Adams, and revealed startling new information about the case and its aftermath. The podcast was named "Best Podcast of the Year" by Sports Illustrated for 2018, cracked the Top 20 on the iTunes "most-downloaded" chart for all podcasts and is still available for free wherever you get your favorite podcasts by searching "Carruth."

"Lost on the Road to Nowhere," Scott's young-adult novel, is the fictional adventure of four children stranded in the North Carolina woods in the aftermath of a car wreck. It is family-friendly, very funny and recommended for ages 8 and up.

A native of Spartanburg, S.C., Scott graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a journalism degree from the UNC-Chapel Hill, where he also served as sports editor of the beloved campus newspaper "The Daily Tar Heel." He and his Charlotte Observer colleagues have recently released two award-winning video documentaries that are available for free on YouTube: "9/11/74," about a forgotten plane crash in Charlotte; and "Super Men: The inside story of the 2015 Carolina Panthers."

Scott lives with his wife and family in North Carolina. Visit his Twitter page: @scott_fowler.
