"I am not a historian—and I don't pretend to be one. I am simply someone who fell in love with Jamaica’s story." — Glen Carty
Glen’s journey into the island’s past began in 2007 during a visit to Black River. Struck by the architecture of a renovated guesthouse, he was left curious about the wealth that built it—and the condition of the town that remained. That curiosity grew into a deepening passion for unearthing the island’s secrets, eventually giving life to the Fiwi Roots Project.
While his professional background includes authoring and editing technical titles, his focus has since turned entirely to the narratives of his homeland. Since 2019, he has dedicated himself to tracing the lineage of Jamaica’s Great House owners and the flow of wealth derived from their plantations. This research led to the 2020 launch of the Jamaica Timeline website and the 2025 publication of his historical work, The Timeline of Jamaica.
What began as a scholarship initiative for rural students unexpectedly opened a new chapter as a novelist. While building a platform for Jamaican writers, a planned short story took on a life of its own, evolving into his debut novel, The Secret Pact. Glen realized then that the best way to preserve history is through storytelling; for those stories to carry meaning, the history must first be told.
Today, Glen continues to give voice to overlooked narratives, weaving factual history into engaging adventures. In his latest novel, The Covenant of Glass, he further explores the deep-seated roots of the Jamaican experience, inviting readers to discover the island’s past through vivid imagery and immersive narrative.
"The best way to preserve history is through storytelling. But for those stories to carry meaning, the history must first be told—and for our young to pass it on, they must be given a future."—Glen Carty
