David Hostetter

David L. Hostetter is an author, historian, and educator. He is the author of Movement Matters: American Antiapartheid Activism and the Rise of Multicultural Politics, and co-editor of Congress Investigates: A Critical and Documentary History. The Oxford Handbook of Peace History, of which David is a co-editor, received the 2024 Edited Book Prize from the Peace History Society.

David has published academic articles, newspaper commentaries, and encyclopedia entries. His articles and reviews have appeared in the American Historical Review, Peace and Change, Mennonite Quarterly Review, and H-Net. He has presented papers at conferences of the American Historical Association, the American Friends Service Committee, the Catoctin Center for Regional Studies, the Friends Historical Society, the Historical Society of Washington, D.C., the Peace History Society, the Peace and Justice Studies Association, and the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations.

A graduate of Juniata College, he earned his Ph.D. in History from the University of Maryland College Park and has taught at Prince George’s Community College, Goshen College, College of Southern Maryland, Shepherd University, and Gwynedd Mercy University. David is the past president of the Peace History Society, for which he has also served as vice president,d member, treasurer, board member, and conference program co-chair. He represented PHS on the program committee of the 2017 Remembering Muted Voices: Conscience, Dissent, Resistance, and Civil Liberties in World War I through Today conference held at the National WWI Museum and Memorial.
