Charles A. Smith

I am a retired Professor Emeritus at Kansas State University. I am a former play therapist, preschool teacher, and child development center director (at Texas Tech University). For more than thirty-six years I was an Extension Specialist in the School of Family Studies and Human Services at Kansas State University with a focus on parenting. In addition to being an author I have offered keynote speeches and workshops on parents, teachers, and children throughout the country. I am also the grandfather of two lovely granddaughters. For more information about my work, visit my primary website at http://www.insightofcaring.com. You can also view my YouTube videos at http://www.youtube.com/user/casmith46.

Heartfelt: Three Touchstones to Comfort Another is now available as both a paperback and Kindle Book. My focus in Heartfelt is responding to the sadness of a family member, a friend, or a stranger. I am quite proud of how the paperback turned out, my first published through Amazon.

Anger! A Guide to Our Fiery Landscape is available at Amazon as a Kindle Book. Although the book originated with my online course for parents struggling with anger, the focus now is on the significance of anger in all of our emotional lives.

I began writing Raising Courageous Kids the day after the horrible events of 9/11. I was in awe of the courage and heroism of so many that day. I had to understand the origins of that incredible bravery. I knew that the threads of that behavior extended back in their lives. The best way to understand something is to write about it. I am proud of this book and those of all ages who have found courage within to put caring into action. There are many stories of Carnegie Hero Medal recipients under the age of 18 in the book. To learn more, visit raisingcourageouskids.com. Visit www.carnegiehero.org to read the stories of those who lived in your home town.

I am forever grateful to Gryphon House for keeping The Peaceful Classroom in print for nearly 20 years. That's a remarkable commitment. I love that book because it is my tribute to the young children who were so important to me in my life as a preschool teacher at Purdue, Bowling Green State University, and Texas Tech. I am thankful for what they taught me. Although out-of-print now, the activities for young children remain effective.
