John Mathiason is Adjunct Professor at the Cornell Institute for Public Affairs of Cornell University and Adjunct Professor at the College of Environmental Science and Forestry of SUNY and Managing Director of Associates for International Management Services, a consulting company specializing in results-based management and evaluation for international organizations. He was formerly Professor of International Relations at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs of Syracuse University. He is an editor of the Journal of International Organizations Studies. He was a career staff member of the United Nations Secretariat for 25 years with a wide variety of assignments, finishing as Deputy Director of the Division for the Advancement of Women. Since retiring from the United Nations he has done research on management of the regime for eliminating weapons of mass destruction, Internet governance and the institutional architecture for climate change. He has also conducted training in results-based management for a variety of international organizations including UNIDO, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, the World Meteorological Organization, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, the World Institute for Development Economics Research, the United Nations Population Fund, the United Nations Development Group, the ILO and FAO as well as universities and research networks in Mozambique, Rwanda, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Bolivia and Argentina.
He has a BA from St. Olaf College and a Ph.D. in political science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
