Alec Ryrie

Alec Ryrie is professor of the history of Christianity at Durham University, former professor of Divinity at Gresham College, London, co-editor of the Journal of Ecclesiastical History and a Fellow of the British Academy. He teaches and writes about Christianity from the Reformation to the modern era, with interests including spirituality, scepticism, violence, moderation, religious politics, magic, missions and cross-cultural encounters, and whatever else he stumbles across. He was born in London, raised there and in Washington DC, and now lives happily in the rural North Pennines, where he is a licenced Reader in the Church of England.
