Colum Kenny

Colum Kenny was born on Eccles Street, Dublin, in 1951, opposite the house that was home to Leopold Bloom in James Joyce's ULYSSES.

He is Emeritus Professor of Communications at Dublin City University and a journalist, who earlier practised law. He lives in the busy Irish seaside town of Bray, Co. Wicklow, between the water and the hills. He is married to Catherine, and they have three sons.

His books include an investigation of Britain's nuclear reprocessing plant (Sellafield), an explanation of how Ireland changed after 1973 and an exploration of the power of silence in arts, business, politics, therapy and religion. His AN IRISH-AMERICAN ODYSSEY (University of Missouri Press, 2014) charts the rise of the remarkable O'Shaughnessy brothers against a backdrop of cultural, social and political change in the USA. It is a window on Irish-America and on immigration generally, packed with details of the worlds of advertising, art, journalism and law in which the young men flourished.
