Bruce Horn

Drawing and painting became routine activities for Bruce Horn while growing up in Circleville, Ohio. Art instruction and visits to art museums as a youngster were significant influences on his development as an artist.

Bruce earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Miami University and worked for a brief time as a package designer at Diamond International Corporation. His studies continued at The Ohio State University where he taught Printmaking and Visual Fundamentals as a Graduate Assistant before earning a Master of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in printmaking. His full-time teaching career began with a faculty position at Blackburn College in Illinois where he taught studio courses and art history. Bruce is a Professor Emeritus of Art at Northern Arizona University where he taught studio courses in painting, printmaking, drawing, composition, color theory and art history.

In addition to local and regional shows, Bruce’s artwork has been included in hundreds of national juried exhibitions at institutions such as the Boston Center for the Arts, Philadelphia Art Alliance, Colorado Institute of Art, Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City, Salmagundi Club in New York and municipal art museums in Cincinnati, Dayton, St. Louis, Phoenix, Newark and Louisville. International competitions of original prints included exhibitions in Poland, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, England, Norway, Yugoslavia, Paraguay and Brazil. Over forty pieces are included in public collections of hospitals, art museums and universities. Bruce has been honored with more than thirty exhibition purchases and awards.

Besides his memberships in national and state professional organizations, Bruce founded the Plein-Air Artists of Northern Arizona. He has traveled throughout the United States and to many corners of the world to frequent museums, to visit artists’ homes and studios, and to paint or draw on location.
