William Whyte

William Whyte is professor of social and architectural history at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of St John's College, Oxford.

Like all historians, he is interested in people, but unlike many he is also equally preoccupied by things and places. He's especially intrigued by what the serious investigation of the built and natural environment does to existing accounts of modern British and European history. He is a fellow of the Royal Historical Society and of the Society of Antiquaries.
