Edgar Smith

Edgar Smith (editor, translator) is a poet and storyteller from the Dominican Republic, who resides in Roanoke,TX. He writes in both English and Spanish and has published sixteen books, including Honorable Mention winner (Short Story Collection category) at the International Latino Book Awards 2022 and number one Amazon best-seller Through this strange window (Short stories, 2022), the critically-acclaimed novels Arrimao (Spanish, 2017) and Gnuj & Alt (English, 2016), and outstanding poetry books, such as Tandava (co-authored with renowned Mexican poet Silvia Siller, 2018), Versenal (Spanish, 2017), and Voz propia / Voice of our own (Bilingual, 2020).

His work has been featured in numerous literary magazines and anthologies, including The Multilingual Anthology of The Americas Poetry Festival of NY, The Latino Book Review Magazine, the Intimate Portrait of Dominican Poets Anthology, the Storytellers of New York anthology (compiled by award-winner author Elssie Cano), and the Poets of the New Era Anthology, among many others.

He has read his poetry at the Confluence/Confluencia event (Naugatuck College, CT), a poetic celebration of immigration at the Irish Repertory Theatre (NYC), and the Circle of Lilies at the Poetry Festival of New York (Governors island), among many other events. He has been invited to the Miami Book Fair, the Dominican Book Fair of New York, the Latino/Hispanic Book Fair in Queens, the Grito de Mujer Festival in New Jersey, and the First New York Book Fair at the prestigious Cervantes Institute in New York.

Smith is the founder of Books&Smith Indie (2015), an independent small press, and one of the fastest growing indie publishers in NY with over 60 books published and over two dozen translations to his credit. He has been selected two years in a row to judge in the International Latino Book Awards and is the creator of Versos Estivales, a multilingual event that took place three years in a row in NY and showcased over fifty poets from Colombia, Argentina, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Iran, Cuba, Peru, USA, Mexico, and Turkey.

In 2018, he was appointed Director of FilDom (Dominican Republic Book Fair Abroad) by the Milibrohispano.org organization.
