Robyn Penman

Robyn Penman (PhD, UMelb) is currently a board member of the CMM Institute and a co-director of the Cosmopolis2045 project. Over her career Robyn has been a consultant to government on social policy matters, a Founding Director of the Communication Research Institute of Australia and an Adjunct Professor in Communication, University of Canberra. Robyn is a Past-President of the Australian and New Zealand Communication Association, has served on the International Communication Association board and is a Visiting Senior Member, Linacre College, Oxford. She was also the Associate Editor of the Australian Journal of Communication and served on the editorial boards of Communication Theory and Human Communication Research. Robyn has devoted her scholarly career to the development of a practical-theoretic approach to understanding communication as a relational practice, with a particular focus on asking questions about what makes for good communicating and what this can mean in the public sphere. She is the author of three books—Communication Process and Relationships, Not the Marrying Kind (with Yvonne Stolk) and Reconstructing Communicating: Looking to a Future.
