James Cribb is an author, photographer, and filmmaker. For more than thirty-five years he has focused on capturing the sacred moments of this fleeting life.
He has been published widely, including three collections of his sensitive coverage of marine environments. Two of his works—Treasures of the Sea: Marine Life of the Pacific Northwest and Marine Life of the Caribbean (with a forward penned by undersea explorer Jacques-Yves Cousteau)—were published by Oxford University Press. His third book, Subtidal Galapagos: Exploring the Waters of Darwin’s Islands, was published by Camden House and was the first major work of its kind to showcase the unique flora and fauna of these famous islands.
As a documentary filmmaker, Cribb has produced and directed three films: Beyond Words documents a performing arts and youth empowerment workshop, comprised of ten youth from four continents, who dance their way into the minds and hearts of South Africans; The Promise of All Ages, a feature-length historical account of the life of Bahá’u’lláh, the nineteenth-century Prophet-Founder of the Bahá’í Faith, narrated by CBC’s Michael Enright; and DEATH BY JOY, a true story of one woman’s choice to find joy in dying and her unforgettable discoveries along the way.
Cribb’s most recent work is DEATH BY JOY: An Escorted Journey, companion book to his documentary film by the same name.
Cribb lives in the Southern Gulf Islands, British Columbia, Canada.
