Heidi Jon Schmidt

Heidi Jon Schmidt was born on Staten Island, New York, grew up on a makeshift farm in Connecticut and has lived most of her adult life at the tip of Cape Cod. A graduate of Bennington College and the University of Iowa Writers Workshop, she has published short stories in The Atlantic, Grand Street, Yankee Magazine and many others, and her work has been anthologized in The O'Henry Awards and Best American Nonrequired Reading, etc.

It is her ambition to write books that are full of the feeling of real life, the surprises and poignancies of human connection, and the comedy and heroism inherent in our everyday doings.

Her favorite review quote is from The Washington Post: "It is impossible to disentangle the comic from the tragic in Schmidt's work; she is incapable of cliche." And, from Sarah Blake, author of The Postmistress, about The House on Oyster Creek, "A book so full of its own life, of deep, lived-life truths, that when I put it down I was lost in my own living room for days."

Heidi lives with her husband and daughter in Provincetown, MA.
