David Briggs

David Briggs was born and brought up in the UK, where he lived until 2009. In a career in universities, he published a dozen academic books on geography, environmental science and public health. Since emigrating to New Zealand he has devoted himself to creative writing. By The Tracks We Leave was published as a Kindle book in 2017; The Direction of Our Fear was published by BMS Books of Rotorua, New Zealand in 2016. His two most recent novels have both been published by RedDoor Press in the UK. The Claim (published 2019) was long-listed for the New Zealand Michael Gifkin prize in 2018, and short-listed for the NZ Booklovers Award in 2020. Zarrin - an oddysey of a young Kurdish refugee fleeing retribution in Syria - was published in July 2022. All author royalties for Zarrin have been donated to Refugee Action - a UK charity supporting refugees.
