David Rudd

Dr David Rudd (70+) is an emeritus professor of literature who turned out academic prose for some 40 years before retiring. He’s always enjoyed creative writing, but it was only after retiring that he could indulge this passion. So far, he has published some 50 stories, his first collection appearing in 2024.

After his first few years in Nigeria, he grew up in the home counties. He moved to Hull as an adult, where he married Sheena and they started a family (Duncan and Sophie, now both in their forties!). When the family moved across to Bolton, David began teaching literature at the university there. His PhD on the renowned children’s author Enid Blyton gave him instant notoriety. His career ended at the University of Roehampton in 2016 after a bout of ill health (culminating in a pacemaker).

It was then that he began to indulge his passions for creative writing and making music (he enjoys playing folk/blues with friends and family). With an increasing number of fictional characters for company, he thoroughly enjoys retirement: walking, travelling and – especially after his colonic cancer – savouring life.
