Muriel K. Rand

Dr. Muriel Rand is a Professor of Early Childhood Education at New Jersey City University. Previously, she served as the Dean of the College of Education. She has also been a preschool teacher, an early childhood music teacher, and a staff and curriculum development consultant to early childhood programs in urban public schools. She holds a Doctorate in Education as well as a Masters in Social Work from Rutgers University.

Dr. Rand specializes in early literacy development, classroom management, and helping children with challenging behavior. A major focus of her work has been establishing partnerships between public schools, community colleges, and 4-year teacher preparation programs to close the gap in achievement between poor, urban children of color and their suburban white peers.

In her spare time, she loves visiting national parks, sailing, reading, going to the movies, trying out new technology, and all things Disney. Her three children, now adults, have taught her more than all the books in the world!
